26.03.14 ACTIVATE OXFORD STREET – THE WAY FORWARD

After experiencing rapid vacancy rates and reduced visitors in recent years Oxford Street is now entering a new phase with some exciting opportunities for rejuvination.

Late last year Woollahra Council and the Paddington Business Partnership engaged world recognised place making consultants Village Well, in collaboration with BellRinger Property Group to work with the community to create a Placemaking Roadmap Report.

A number of workshops with local traders, property owners and key strategic stakeholders were held and a new vision, principles and activation recommendations have been drafted into a report.

This Roadmap outlines how to get Oxford Street and Paddington back on track to reclaim its place as one of Sydney‟s most eclectic and vibrant destinations.

HAVE YOUR SAY

Woollahra Council would now like to get the wider community’s feedback on the report before it is finalised.  Your comments will help prioritise actions and outcomes.  We would love for you to take a couple of minutes to read the Draft Placemaking Roadmap Report and tell us what you think through an online survey available on the Activate Oxford Street website HERE.  Feel free to share the survey with friends and colleagues and note that the survey will close on Friday 11 April 2014.

Next steps:

  • Following review of survey feedback, Village Well will prepare a final report with recommendations which will be presented to Woollahra Council and the Paddington Business Partnership
  • Council will prioritise actions and responses to the key recommendations.

We are looking forward to some much needed change and investment in the area to re-create Paddington as a vibrant village.

OUR TOP 10 REASONS TO POP INTO PADDO AND SHOP LOCAL

Paddington shops offer personable customer service – When you shop local in Paddington boutiques you are more likely to be served by the business owner or by friendly staff who have time to help you, know your name, and go the extra mile.

Beat the crowds – Why navigate the insanity of a hyped-up, time poor crowds and carparks? Steer to Paddington for that stress-free experience. Street shopping means you can pace yourself and navigate with enough space to swing your shopping bags.

Support your community - Your money stays in your community and supports small business operators; that is real people, rather than being siphoned off to large corporations.  You’re encouraging diversity, giving you more unique choices.
